Personal Account Information

When you create an account with Daily Journal: Diary with Lock, we collect and store the following personal information in our secure cloud infrastructure:

Email Address

Your email address is required for account creation, authentication, password recovery, and communication purposes. We use your email to send you important notifications about your account, security alerts, product updates, and occasional promotional content (which you can opt out of at any time). Your email address is stored securely and encrypted in our cloud database.

Full Name

We collect your full name to personalize your experience within the app, including greeting you by name and customizing certain features. Your name may also be used in communications we send you. This information is stored in our secure cloud servers and is kept confidential.

Date of Birth (DOB)

Your date of birth is collected for several purposes: (1) to verify that you meet the minimum age requirement to use our service, (2) to enable age-appropriate content and features, (3) to provide personalized insights and reminders based on life milestones, and (4) for analytical purposes to understand our user demographics. This sensitive information is encrypted and stored securely in the cloud.

Gender

We collect gender information to provide personalized content, recommendations, and insights that may be more relevant to your experience. This information also helps us understand our user base and improve our services. Gender data is optional but recommended for enhanced personalization. All gender information is stored securely in our cloud infrastructure with appropriate encryption.

Storage Location: All personal account information listed above is stored on secure cloud servers with enterprise-grade encryption both in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard security protocols to protect this data from unauthorized access.

Journal Entries and Personal Content

Written Journal Entries

Your journal entries—the core of your experience with Daily Journal—may be stored both locally on your device and in our secure cloud infrastructure. The choice between local and cloud storage depends on your app settings and whether you enable cloud backup features.

Cloud Storage: When cloud backup is enabled, your journal entries are securely transmitted to and stored on our cloud servers. This enables you to access your entries across multiple devices, ensures your data is backed up in case of device loss, and allows us to provide advanced features such as search, AI-powered insights, and analytics.

Analytics and Processing: Journal entries stored in the cloud may be analyzed using automated systems and algorithms to provide you with personalized insights, mood tracking, writing patterns, and other analytical features. This analysis is conducted with strict privacy controls and your data remains confidential.

Important: While we use your journal content to improve your personal experience (such as generating insights specific to you), we do not share your private journal entries with third parties for marketing purposes or sell your personal writing to any external entities.

Photos and Media Files

Daily Journal allows you to enrich your entries by attaching photos, images, videos, audio recordings, and other media files. These files are an integral part of your journaling experience and are subject to the following practices:

  • Cloud Storage: Photos and media attached to your journal entries are stored in our secure cloud storage systems to enable synchronization across devices and ensure backup protection.
  • File Formats: We support various media formats including JPG, PNG, GIF, MP4, MOV, MP3, and other common file types.
  • Processing: Media files may be processed for optimization purposes (such as compression to reduce storage space and improve loading times) while maintaining reasonable quality.
  • Metadata: Technical metadata associated with photos (such as EXIF data including date, time, location if available, and device information) may be stored and used to enhance features like automatic organization and memories.
  • Privacy: Your photos and media are treated with the same level of confidentiality as your written entries and are not shared publicly unless you explicitly choose to share them through our collaborative features.

Collaborative Journal Entries

Our app offers collaborative journaling features that allow you to create shared journals with friends, family, or groups. These collaborative journals have specific data handling considerations:

  • Mandatory Cloud Storage: All collaborative journal entries are stored on our cloud servers by necessity, as they need to be accessible to all participants in the shared journal.
  • Visibility: Entries in collaborative journals are visible to all members who have been granted access to that specific shared journal.
  • Photos in Shared Journals: Any photos or media files attached to collaborative journal entries are also stored in the cloud and are accessible to all journal participants.
  • Participant Information: We store information about journal participants, including who created which entry, timestamps, and any reactions or comments.
  • Permissions: The creator of a collaborative journal has administrative privileges and can manage access, add or remove participants, and control certain settings.

Caution: When participating in collaborative journals, remember that other participants will have access to your contributions. Exercise discretion about what you share in these spaces, as you cannot control what other participants do with the shared content.

We use Google Ads (including AdMob for mobile advertising) to display advertisements within our app. This allows us to offer Daily Journal for free or at a lower cost while generating revenue to support ongoing development and improvements.

  • Remarketing Ads: Ads from companies whose websites or apps you've previously visited
