Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Tap the '+' button at the bottom of the home screen. Write your thoughts, add photos, then tap 'Save' to store your entry.

Yes — creating an account (with Google or Apple) enables cloud backup, syncing across devices, and access to all AI features.

Absolutely. Your entries are stored locally on your device by default — we cannot see or access your personal content. You can also set up a PIN lock for extra security.

AI features & Zeni

Zeni is your AI journaling companion. Chat with Zeni about your thoughts, get reflective questions, receive encouragement, and explore your emotions in a supportive conversation.

When you save an entry, our AI analyzes your text to suggest a mood emoji so you can track patterns over time. You can always change the suggestion if it doesn't feel right.

No, never. Your content is processed in real-time for features like mood detection and chat, but it is never stored on external servers or used to train AI models.

Premium users get Word Cloud, Stress Analysis, Relationship Insights, Personal Growth tracking, Mood Prediction, and Monthly Digest summaries.

Free users get 40 messages per day; Premium users get unlimited. Daily limits reset at midnight in your local timezone.

On any entry you can tap Get Advice, Follow-up Prompts, Analyze Themes, Generate Affirmation, and Letter to Self. Free users get limited daily uses; Premium users get more.

Backup & sync

Go to Settings → Backup. Connect Google Drive (Android/iOS) or iCloud (iOS only), then back up manually or enable auto-backup after each new entry.

In YOUR personal Google Drive or iCloud account — not on our servers. You'll find it as 'zendiary_backup.json' in your cloud storage.

Go to Settings → Backup → Restore, select your source, and confirm. Note: restoring replaces your current local data with the backup.

If cloud backup wasn't enabled, entries cannot be recovered. We strongly recommend enabling backup to protect your memories.

Yes — use Google Drive backup on both. Write on one device, back up, then restore on the other. (iCloud backup is iOS-only.)

Premium & subscriptions

Unlimited Zeni chat and AI Insights, Word Cloud, Stress Analysis, Relationship Insights, Personal Growth tracking, Mood Prediction, Monthly Digest, and an ad-free experience.

Monthly and Yearly (discounted). All subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple/Google. iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Zendiary. Android: Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions → Zendiary.

Payments go through Apple/Google, so contact Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or Google Play support for refund requests.

No — daily limits reset at midnight in your local timezone, and unused allowances do not carry over.

Features & tips

While creating or editing an entry, tap the camera/gallery icon to attach photos. You can add several per entry; they’re stored locally and included in backups.

Each entry can carry a mood emoji — AI suggests one, but you can change it. Over time you'll see mood patterns in your statistics.

Monthly Digest (Premium) creates a beautiful summary of your month — mood trends, key themes, memorable entries, and AI-generated insights.

Open an entry, tap share, and select 'Share as Image' to create a card-style image you can post or save.

Based on recent entries, AI suggests books that might resonate. Free users get 3 per day; Premium users get 10.

Privacy & security

No. Entries are stored locally on your device — we cannot access, read, or view them. AI features process data in real-time and do not store it.

Settings → Account → Delete All Journals for immediate local deletion. For full account deletion, email hi@zendiary.in with subject 'Account Deletion Request'.

Uninstalling deletes all local data permanently. If cloud backup was enabled, the backup file stays in your Drive/iCloud until you delete it manually.

Yes. Data sent to AI services uses industry-standard HTTPS/TLS encryption, and cloud backups live in your personal accounts with their own encryption.
